I was asked to design and oversee this small project by the hospital community, to replace the much loved but badly pot-holed existing basketball ground within the hospital campus. With a small budget, I worked closely with a local contractor to strike a balance between quality and simplicity.
The reinforced concrete court surface features pigmented cement and marble chips used to create permanent markings which can weather every season. Two long stands were created on each side to provide seating and a stage area, sheltered by a polycarbonate canopy. The seating is finished in a pinkish-red terrazzo, and provides a flexible and playful gathering space which is also accessible.
